Classic Shrimp Salad Sandwich on toasted bread with fresh herbs

This Classic Shrimp Salad Sandwich is a refreshing, creamy seafood favorite made with tender shrimp, celery, lemon, and dill, all served on your choice of toasted bread or lettuce wraps.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • ½ cup celery, diced

  • ¼ cup red onion, finely chopped

  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon celery seed

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • Toasted sourdough, croissants, or lettuce leaves for serving

Instructions

  • Boil 4 quarts of water with lemon, peppercorns, and a bay leaf.

  • Add shrimp and simmer for 2 minutes until just cooked through.

  • Cool shrimp in an ice bath, peel and chop.

  • In a bowl, whisk together mayo, mustard, lemon juice, dill, salt, pepper, and celery seed.

  • Fold in the celery, onion, and chopped shrimp until evenly coated.

  • Chill mixture for 30 minutes.

  • Scoop onto bread or into lettuce wraps, serve chilled.

 

Notes

  • Use Greek yogurt for a lighter twist.

  • Add avocado or cucumber for extra crunch.

  • Best served chilled; keeps in fridge for up to 3 days
